Join us for a Jammin' Junkanoo in Eleuthera on Dec. 23rd!
There's more to Eleuthera than turquoise seas, pearlescent sand, and brilliant gold sunsets.
Junkanoo, the famed national festival celebrating Bahamian cultural pride, typically kicks off every year on Boxing Day and/or New Year's Eve. Virtually every island hosts its own version, of varying scales on different days. Some say to experience Junkanoo, with its captivating kaleidoscope of colors, rhythm, and spice, is to hold a hand to the heartbeat of the Bahamas.
Not to be confused with the springtime Bahamas Carnival, which is pure entertainment, Junkanoo leans more into islanders' cultural roots. Traditional Bahamian music, food & drinks, and hand-crafted costumes are prominently featured - and all are welcome.
The All Eleuthera Junkanoo Parade 2023 will be held Saturday, December 23rd at 9 p.m. in Hatchet Bay.
Though celebrations may differ slightly from place to place, most share similar traits:
- Stunning, handmade costumes adorned with flashy feathers, glittering sequins, and every bold color under the sun.
- Parades with enthusiastic dancers moving to energetic beats on goat skin drums, cowbells, and whistles.
- Uniquely Caribbean fare for sale, such as spicy jerk chicken wings, conch fritters, fish fry, fried plantain, and rum cakes.
It's not too late to book a last-minute deal on the perfect Eleuthera vacation rental to ensure you don't miss out on the festivities! Read on for still-available rentals & more fun holiday events in Eleuthera!
